It was the summer of last year when I learned a great lesson that God sometimes works in strange and unexpected ways. Every year since I was 7 my church has traveled to Hartford City to take a group of students to church camp. Me and a group of girls decided that year we wanted to reach out and make new friends. When we arrived at camp that year we stopped by the office and received our room location and number.

There were 5 of us girls assigned to one room and all of us were familiar with the campground because we had all been to camp since we were young. We grabbed our bags and carried them to our room. But to our surprise there were already suitcases in the room. We were taken aback at first but quickly came to the conclusion that someone must have accidentally moved into the wrong room. It was time for lunch so we just threw our bags into the room and ran off to eat.

When we returned from lunch the other girls were back. They wondered why our bags was there, we explained that they must have gotten confused with the room assignments. They became very defensive, so we backed out and said ‘we don’t want to argue and we will just wait for our leaders to help figure out what going on.’

Our leader eventually came and discovered that the girls had just gotten the wrong cabin. By now everyone was hot, sweaty, and just wanting a shower before evening services. The other girls were clearly upset and very unhappy.

So our leader got us girls together and said, “Even though you may not want to and it may be embarrassing for you, I would like you to go to them and tell them you are sorry for their troubles and offer to help carry their bags to their new cabin.”

We did what she asked willingly because inside of us we realized it was the right and Christian thing to do. Although it was embarrassing and very humbling, we knocked on their door and offered to help. They accepted the help and the apologizes. After we had their bags in their new room they thanked us and we started talking. As it turns out God chose these girls to be our new friends.
